Reading and ELA
Reading
This school year we will be working with a variety of texts (fiction, nonfiction, biographies, fantasy, poetry, etc). In class students will be reviewing for the NYS test, held at the end of March. In addition to the short stories and questions in the Common Core Coach book, students will be reading nonfiction texts (in accordance with their ELA research projects). |
ELA
OVer the next two units, student section will use nonfiction texts, both in print and online, in order to conduct research. Students' research will Ben used to create a biography (in the form of a "Facebook" page) and their own informational book. Students will get to pick their own topic for both projects. In addition, we will have weekly spelling tests, with their spelling packet to be completed and handed in each Wednesday. We also will be studying grammar using Sadlier's Grammar Workshop. Each student has a workbook which will be used for grammar practice and homework. Extra grammar practice from the book can be found at www.grammarworkshop.com (orange book) |
EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!
In addition to reading a variety of books and novels, students will also be encouraged to read the newspaper. Each week a new article will be posted in the room. If you and/or your child read an interesting article from the newspaper or magazine please forward it to me so that it can be shared and added to our current events reading section!
